Let us begin with thanking Sega Anthology for these amazing high quality pictures of his Dreamcast!
The Sega Dreamcast.. one of the most iconic Sega consoles ever created. It did not do so well with the competitors but it was a beauty to look at, and it had the most coolest looking games and accessories.
A lot of limited editions where release as well, in all the colors you can think of and even very rare editions. one of the rarest (and coolest looking) is the Sonic 10th anniversary Dreamcast!
What is it?:
The Sonic the Hedgehog 10th anniversary Dreamcast is a beautiful blue Dreamcast that celebrates the 10th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. It's not one of the popular consoles but it surely is known to the collectors due it's unique color
How to get this console in the past?
You have 2 different variations of the 10th anniversary, one that is signed by Yuji Naka (the head of Sonic Team, the lead programmer of the original Sonic the Hedgehog) and units that are not signed.
the consoles were send to SoE (Sega of Europe) to the Sega employees as a 'Thank you' and 10 of them were shipped to France to give away for contests why, we don`t know.
Luckily, we have found some of the scans of the official contest where you win the console!
French magazine 'Consoles+' (issue 114 of July/August 2001) gave away 6 of them:
Where is the console from?
The contest and the employees were all from Europe, also the logo on the controller is blue, that is representing the European Dreamcast logo
how many are made?
that is always a tough one. but we have the answer!
So we got a confirmation based on sources and all the serial numbers that are discovered
that 50 are made. 40 of them are signed by Yuji Naka and 10 are not.
we have the exact numbers and models here:

I have a sonic 10th anniversary pin that was giving away with a pair of soap shoes back in the day

Just as a heads up, one of these was up for grabs in a UK newspaper as a competition prize. It was definitely a newspaper (and not a video game magazine) as I recall my grandmother giving me the page with the "cut-out and send" competition entry form. Sadly, I don't recall which newspaper in particular it was, but it would have been fairly mainstream.

In response to what Charlie said, I believe that it was the news of the world newspaper that had one up for grabs
